You may browse and search videos subtitled by Amara volunteers and watch them with subtitles with the use of Amara video player without signing up. However, to start submitting videos and adding subtitles you'll need to create a user account on Amara and sign in. To begin, please open Sign Up / Sign In page. There are several ways of creating a new user account on Amara:

Select a username and a password.

Scroll the page down to Create an Account panel and enter a username you are going to use, your email address, which Amara will use for communication with you, and your password twice:

In the Captcha field, type the letters you see in the image above. If you have difficulty recognizing the letters, try refreshing the page until you see the letters clearly. Captcha was introduced as protection against bots; we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the need to type it.

Please note that your username should be no longer than 30 characters and contain no spaces or special characters (period, underscore, plus and minus signs, or @ symbol are OK). It must be unique - there should be no other users with the same username. If a duplicate of your username is found, the system will tell you so - in this case, please select another username and proceed.

Important: please make sure to provide a valid email address when creating a new user account. It will be used for resetting your password and for delivering important notifications about your videos, subtitles, subtitling teams, and personal messages from other Amara users (optional). If you do not provide a valid email address now, you will not be able to do so in the future and some Amara features will be inaccessible.*

Once you are ready, click Create Account button. If all the data you have entered is valid, a new user account will be created for you and you will be signed in for your first user session with Amara. You should now see your username in the top right-hand corner of the screen, next to the menu:

In the future, you will need to use your username and password every time you sign in again. Note: if you have a valid Facebook or Twitter account, you can add this information to your user account and sign in by clicking Facebook or Twitter button, respectively. Learn more >>>

Use a social network account

Instead of inventing and memorizing a username and password which you will need to retype every time you sign in, you can use one of the following social network accounts if you have one:

When you click one of these buttons, the system will prompt you to log on as a Google (or Facebook, Twitter, TED, etc.) user, if you have not yet done so already. Then it will look up in the list of existing user accounts for a record that matches the social network account you have chosen. If no match exists, you will be prompted to sign up with the use of this account:

Once you are ready, click Proceed button. If all the data you have entered is valid, a new user account will be created for you and you will be signed in for your first user session with Amara. You should now see your username in the top right-hand corner of the screen, next to the menu, and a banner at the top of the screen notifying you that you have just created a new user account.

If you do not wish to create a new user account with the use of a social network account, click Sign Up page link at the bottom of Sign Up panel. This will stop creation of a new Amara account, and you will be taken back to Sign Up page.

IMPORTANT: When you sign up for www.amara.org, your user account is valid only at www.amara.org. Amara Helpdesk site (support.amara.org) is managed independently from the main Amara site and requires separate registration.
