Note: At this time, only one Vimeo account can be connected per Amara user.
- After your Vimeo account is connected you can add videos from your Vimeo account and Amara will import video information (title, thumbnail, description).
- We export subtitles for videos on your Vimeo account whenever they are completed and published on Amara.
- Changes made to subtitles on Vimeo will not update on Amara. Use Amara to edit subtitles.
Adding Videos
If you would like to manually add a video from your Vimeo account, copy and paste the URL in the Amara Public Workspace page. Any videos added this way will show on the Videos tab of your account.
Check if your subtitles export to Vimeo
To export subtitles to Vimeo, you must connect your Vimeo account to your Amara account.
Go to the Amara Public Workspace and click on the video that you want to check for subtitle export. Under the video player, click on the URLs tab. If the subtitles created on Amara have exported to Vimeo, you will see a tag that says "Synced" next to the video URL.
Submit a support ticket with your Amara username and video URL if you continue to have trouble exporting subtitles.
Privacy and Special Considerations
Vimeo video player:
Videos are hosted on Vimeo, so any updates made to the video content on Vimeo will be reflected on Amara.
Vimeo privacy settings for a video determines what it looks like in the video player where the video is embedded.
For videos added through the Amara Public Workspace:
The video is added to the Amara public library where users can search for it by video title
Anyone on Amara will be able to see the video page with the video title, description, and any subtitles
If the video is private or password-protected on Vimeo, other users will be unable to play it on Amara without the credentials
Subtitles imported from Vimeo will appear on the Subtitle Details page as “imported with video” by “Amara Bot.”
Vimeo supports adding both a subtitles and captions track for the same language. When Amara exports subtitles to Vimeo, they are added as a subtitles track.
A Vimeo account can only be connected to one place on Amara. You can connect your Vimeo account to your Amara user account or one Amara team but not to multiple users or teams.
