Thank you for your interest in working with Amara!

Amara On Demand (AOD) is seeking talented, dedicated professional translators to create quality subtitles for video content. By creating subtitles that preserve meaning and cultural context, you will help us make information and entertainment globally accessible. Help us foster an online community dedicated to making content accessible to a global audience!

We are a non-profit organization with a community-driven mission and an award-winning editor that is available for free use to the public. Our hiring process helps us ensure that applicants are willing and able to commit their efforts to creating globally accessible content. The samples of subtitled videos requested of applicants is a requirement that demonstrates the necessary basic skills to be considered for a position with AOD.

Please consider this before applying

Applicants must have experience creating subtitles with the Amara Editor to be considered. Make sure you have at least 2 samples of completed subtitles on your Amara profile before applying!

  • Our linguists need to be familiar with the Amara subtitle editor because it is used to complete all work at AOD.

  • It gives you the chance to learn the shortcuts, time yourself, and figure out if subtitling on Amara is something that you are excited about doing!

Before applying

To Apply

  1. Create your free Amara user account.

  2. Complete at least 2 (short 2-3 minute) sample subtitles using the Amara Editor.

  3. Log in to and fill out our online application.

Please note the following:

  • You should be logged into before proceeding to fill out the application.  The Application reads the Activity on your Profile and will be able to determine whether the required 2 pieces of subtitling work are present.

  • The "warning" message about the 2 work samples will always be visible at the top of the Application page, so just proceed to fill out the Application and click on Apply once you have completed the 2 pieces of subtitling work.

  • Files you are uploading with the application, such as your CV, should not contain special characters in the file name (for example, ó and ñ).  Special characters can be present in the content of the files, just not the file names.

After you apply

We share our rates after a candidate is selected for an interview.

  • More information about the position is provided during the interview so that candidates can make an informed decision about working with our team.

Due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to contact every applicant individually.

  • If your qualifications meet our requirements, we will contact you.

We appreciate your patience during this process!
