Connect YouTube Channel to Amara User
Create and export subtitles from Amara to your YouTube channels:
Connect YouTube channels to an Amara user account
Automatically import subtitles from YouTube to Amara
Confirm subtitle export from Amara to YouTube
Note: This process is similar to the Vimeo integration with an Amara Public account.
Integrate your Amara Public account with your video hosting site
Integrating your Amara account with an external video hosting site provides benefits that help save you time by automating several steps:
Import videos automatically from the site to your Amara team.
Import subtitles automatically when you add a video from your channel to Amara.
Export subtitles when marked complete on Amara.
Important note: Make sure you are logged in to your account on the video hosting site before starting the integration process.
The integration can be added to one account on Amara at a time, so make sure you haven't connected another Amara Public account or an Amara Team to your channel.
Go to your Amara Public username.
Select Account in the dropdown menu.
Click the Integrations header to view and change the integrations for your Amara Public account.
Connect to your Amara User Account
To enable Amara users to create subtitles for videos on your YouTube channel, connect your channel to your Amara user account:
Click the Integrations tab on your Amara Public account page.
Select the video hosting site that you would like to connect to.
Click the Connect to YouTube button, review permissions, and select a YouTube channel to connect to your Amara Public account.
After connecting, Amara will import subtitles, video title, description, and thumbnail for all:
Existing public and unlisted videos
New videos added after you connect channel
We export subtitles for your videos from Amara to your YouTube channel after they are completed and published on Amara.
Changes made to subtitles on YouTube will not update on Amara. Use Amara to edit subtitles.
Adding Videos
If you would like to manually add a video from your YouTube channel, click the Add Videos button on the Amara Public Workspace page and copy and paste the video URL. Any videos added this way will show on the Videos tab of your account.
Check if your subtitles export to YouTube
To export subtitles to YouTube, you must connect your YouTube channel to your Amara user account.
Go to the Amara Public Workspace and click on the video that you want to check for subtitle export. Under the video player, click on the URLs tab. If the subtitles created on Amara have successfully exported to YouTube, you will see a tag that says "Synced" next to the video URL.
Submit a support ticket with your Amara username and video URL if you continue to have trouble exporting subtitles.
Privacy and Special Considerations
YouTube video player:
Videos are hosted on YouTube, so any updates made to the video content on YouTube will be reflected on Amara
YouTube privacy settings for a video determines what it looks like in the video player where the video is embedded
Currently, we do not support re-importing subtitle tracks from YouTube to Amara after the video is added to Amara.
YouTube auto-generated subtitles are not imported to Amara.
Subtitles imported from YouTube will appear on the Subtitle Details page as “imported with video” by “Amara Bot.”
When you upload a video through your Account integration or through the Amara Public Workspace page:
The video is added to the Amara public library.
Anyone on Amara will be able to see the video page with the video title, description, and any subtitles.
If the video is set to private on the original hosting site, other users will not be able to play it on Amara.
A YouTube account can only be connected to one place on Amara. You can connect your YouTube account to your Amara user account or one Amara team but not to multiple users or teams.
