Follow these steps to connect your Vimeo account with your Amara Team.

You must be an Owner or Administrator of a team to connect Vimeo to your team.

  • Make sure you are logged into the correct Vimeo account in your browser

  • Go to the Team Workspace. Under Teams you manage click the Go to team link.

  • Go to the Settings page.

  • Select Integrations from the sidebar on the left.

  • Click the Add Account button.

  • Click the Add Vimeo account button under the Vimeo tab.

Vimeo tab on a team's Integrations page, showing the Add Vimeo Account button.

Note

  • A Vimeo account can only be connected to one place on Amara. For example, you can connect your Vimeo account to your Amara user account OR to an Amara team, but not to multiple users or teams.

  • We currently support connecting up to 10 Vimeo accounts to one Amara team. If you need to connect more, please contact enterprise-support@amara.org.

After your Vimeo account is connected to the team, depending on the options you chose in the Integration Settings page, Amara will:

  • Import the subtitles and video information from Vimeo when you add a video from Vimeo to Amara.

    • Note: At any time, you can create/edit subtitles and/or manually upload subtitle files, even with the Vimeo account Integration set to automatically import existing subtitles.

  • Export subtitles marked as completed to Vimeo.

    • Note: Changes made to subtitles on Vimeo won't be reflected on Amara and may be overwritten. Use Amara to edit subtitles.

Edit Integration Settings

After your integration is set up in your Amara team, you can view or edit the settings for each of your integrations by hovering over it and clicking the pencil and paper icon on the Settings Integrations page.

Integrations page for a Vimeo channel with pencil and paper icon highlighted with a red box.

If you are an administrator of two or more teams, you can choose which teams to use for importing and exporting in Settings Integrations. Edit the integration and set the teams in the Sync teams field for videos from these teams.

Add Videos to Your Team

Public videos are easiest for Amara users to view and subtitle.

  • Go to your team Videos page.

  • Click the Add Videos button.

  • Enter the URL of the video.

  • Set video language.

You can also browse the public videos on the Amara Public Workspace and click the video card, and then click the Add this video to one of your teams link in the dialog box for the video.

Checking for Importing and Exporting Issues

  • Check your video’s privacy settings on Vimeo. Allow embedding on videos you want to add to Amara.

  • Only completed subtitles will export to the connected host site. Click on the video, then the subtitle language, and check to see if the subtitles are marked as Complete.

You can review subtitle export history to Vimeo on the Integrations page or on the Sync History tab for a set of subtitles.

  1. Team Settings page > Integrations page.

  2. Scroll down the page to the Subtitle Export History section:

The Subtitle Export History section of the team Settings, Integrations page. Settings and Integrations highlighted with a red box.

  1. Or from the Videos page > select video > select subtitle language > Sync History tab:

Sync History tab highlighted from a subtitle page. Go to the Videos page, select a video, select a subtitle language, then select the Sync History tab.

Resync any subtitles that did not export to Vimeo.

Submit a support ticket if you continue to have trouble syncing your subtitles.

Privacy and Special Considerations

  • Videos are hosted on Vimeo, so any updates made to the video content on Vimeo will be reflected on Amara.

  • Vimeo privacy settings for a video determines what it looks like in the video player where the video is embedded.

  • If the video visibility in a team is set to private, only the team members (and members of chosen evaluation teams) are able to see the video, thumbnail, title, description, and subtitle text.

  • If the video visibility is not private, anyone will be able to access the video and subtitle pages.

  • If the video is private or password-protected on Vimeo, other users will be unable to play it on Amara without the credentials.

  • Owners and Administrators of an Amara team can change the visibility of their team and its videos in team Settings General page.

  • Subtitles imported from Vimeo will appear on the Subtitle Details page as imported by Amara Bot.

  • Vimeo supports adding both a subtitles and captions track for the same language. When Amara exports subtitles to Vimeo, they are added as a subtitles track.
