If you have trouble getting the video to start in the subtitle editor by pressing TAB key or clicking Play button, we recommend trying the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Check that the video actually exists and is public.
If you have trouble getting the video to start in the subtitle editor by pressing TAB key or clicking Play button, we recommend trying the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Find the video URL on the URLs tab of the main video page:
Does the video play in your browser directly from its original URL? To check using the example on the screenshot above, paste https://youtu.be/F3E3y9uWP-g into the address bar of the browser and press the Enter key. In some cases the video might have been removed or made private by its owner; if you see a YouTube error message or 404 Not Found page, the video cannot be played from this URL both on Amara.org and outside of the site.
2. Force reload the subtitle editor.
While you are on the subtitle editor page, please try pressing CTRL+F5, CTRL+R, or COMMAND+R keys. If asked whether you'd like to stay on the page or leave the page, click Leave the page. Sometimes that helps to get the video play.
Important: If you have any unsaved changes in the editor, please make sure to save them before reloading the page to avoid losing these changes.
3. Check for add-ons in your browser and disable them.
If your browser has add-ons, try disabling them. Restart your browser and force-reload the editor as described in above in section 2.
4. Check that your browser is up to date.
You can do this, for example, with the use of http://www.whatismybrowser.com. If your browser is out of date, please update to the latest version. After that, restart your browser and force-reload the editor as described in section 2 above.
5. Try another browser.
Although Amara editor is generally compatible with all the major Web browsers (except mobile devices), Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are known to yield the best results. Also, not all the video formats are equally compatible with all the browsers, so, if steps 2-5 have not yet helped to resolve the problem, it is worth trying a different browser.
